I am a copywriter and content strategist.
I also do quite a few other things such as art direction, creative thinking, social media strategy, SEO, branding and training.
Actually, what I really am, is a publisher. It started when I learned how to use my grandad’s old typewriter aged five. I just started typing away. Since then, I’ve discovered that you can put me in front of any tech, and I’ll just start publishing on it – music and pictures as well as words.

About this blog
This blog began as a way of understanding what PR was about, given that I’d just started working for a PR agency but didn’t know what PR was.
It then became about social media once I’d found out what PR was.
Now I’ve found out what social media is, this blog is about everything I’ve been involved with over the years: content, social media, copywriting, marketing, branding and strategy. Basically anything that involves a bit of comms, some insight, slight silliness and occasionally some controversy, and I’m up for it. Especially if I can write it in sonnet form.
I was one of the founding team that set up Sharepages.com and was publications manager for its parent company, Knowledge Technology Solutions.
I have worked in publications, communications and social media strategy for world-leading brands such as ADP and Imagination Technologies, and agencies such as Porter Novelli and Fleishman-Hillard.
I also ran the marketing, PR, social media and content single-handed for two years as Editor-in-Chief at Byyd mobile advertising.
I now work at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity close to my heart (and home), helping drive their content and digital programmes.
I have been quoted by the BBC, Brand Republic and PR Week, and featured in Communication Director as a blogger and as a social media commentator (click for PDF). I have also appeared on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme as a social media commentator.
I’ve appeared on lists of online influencers in PR, social media and marketing, such as Ad Age’s Power150 list of top global marketing blogs, Spinning Around’s Top Marketing Blogs, Ewan CarMichaels’ top 50 social media blogs of 2011, the 10Yetis most influential PR blogger list, and the BrandRepublic 200 list of the best advertising, marketing, media, PR and digital blogs from around the world, ranked in terms of traffic and social influence.
That’s the pro stuff out of the way. More importantly, I like recording nice guitar parts then ruining them with synths and samples, going for long walks, especially in Avebury during midsummer, and live with my lovely partner and two slightly clingy cats, near a church with a duck pond.
