I am a tech copywriter, content strategist and social media strategist.
I also do quite a few other things too such as branding, training and all-round marketing but I’ve been told I should just say I do one thing, or at most two. Which is why I’ve put three. These are probably the three I should talk about but this might change depending on what I’m working on at the time.

About this blog
This blog is called ‘A Life in Bubbles’ because I seem to have been living in one tech bubble or another most of my life. It started with a ZX81, at the outset of home computing. I was fascinated by it, by the fact it was a computer, that I could use my brain to instruct this other brain to do stuff. The next bubble was IT, as PCs and Windows came along, when I studied at the IT Institute at the University of Salford. Then the World Wide Web came along, and I became a web designer and worked for a dotcom. I didn’t become a millionaire unfortunately, and so via PR I eventually, inevitably stumbled into the next bubble: social media. My latest bubble has been mobile advertising. So, from home computing, to business computing, to networks, to interaction, and now mobile. Very bubbly, you’ve got to admit.
This blog began as a way of understanding what PR was about, given that I’d just started working for a PR agency but didn’t know what PR was. It then became about social media. Now I’ve kind of given up on trying to write specifically about anything and so it’s going to be about, well, what you see at the top of this page: content + social + media + copywriting + marketing + branding + strategy. And that’s just for starters. Basically anything that involves a smattering of tech, a bit of comms, some insight and occasionally some controversy, and I’m up for it. Especially if I can write it in sonnet form.
I was one of the founding team that set up Sharepages.com and was publications manager for its parent company, Knowledge Technology Solutions.
I have worked in publications, communications and social media strategy for world-leading brands such as ADP and Imagination Technologies, and agencies such as Porter Novelli and Fleishman-Hillard.
I also ran the marketing, PR, social media and content single-handed for two years at Byyd mobile advertising.
I have been quoted by the BBC, Brand Republic and PR Week, and featured in Communication Director as a blogger (see left) and as a social media commentator (click for PDF). I have also appeared on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme as a social media commentator.
I’ve appeared on lists of online influencers in PR, social media and marketing, such as Ad Age’s Power150 list of top global marketing blogs, From PR to Eternity’s Top PR Blogs, Spinning Around’s Top Marketing Blogs, BlogRank’s Top Social Media Blogs, Ewan CarMichaels’ top 50 social media blogs of 2011, and the BrandWatch 200 list of the best advertising, marketing, media, PR and digital blogs from around the world, ranked in terms of traffic and social influence.
That’s the pro stuff out of the way. More importantly, I like recording nice guitar parts then ruining them with synths and samples, going for long walks, especially in Avebury during midsummer, and live with my lovely partner, two cats, a tortoise and a 1976 Triumph Spitfire in Buckinghamshire, near a church with a duck pond.
