You don’t need javascript – this is a WordPress-hosted blog yet contains del.icio.us content (it’s really still called thefriendlyghost.wordpress.com, it just maps onto the brendancooper.com domain but still hosted on WordPress.)

Two ways to use del.icio.us to pump stuff into your blog:
1. Go to del.icio.us, click Settings, click daily blog posting, click ‘Add a new thingy’ (yes, really!). Looks complicated at first but there’s some help at the bottom of the page. This will, on a daily basis, post everything you bookmarked onto your blog, under the title ‘Links for [date]‘. So, it’s a new post, it appears on your feed, everyone who’s subscribed to your blog’s feed gets it at their end.

2. Go to del.icio.us – and stop. Take a look at your browser address bar. If you’re running the latest version of IE or Firefox, you’ll see that there’s an RSS icon there. This means you have a feed. In fact, all your tags have feeds. So, if you want a specific tag to appear on your blog – and not absolutely everything – then create a suitable tag. You can see mine at http://del.icio.us/CooperBrendan/forblog – and again, notice that RSS icon. So, now what you do is, take that feed, and pump it into an RSS widget on your blog. Hey presto, alakazam, you’ve got a widget that lists your del.icio.us stuff – no javascript, no whizzery of any kind. This *isn’t* a post so it *won’t* appear as such on your blog, so people won’t get it from your blog’s feed. But they can subscribe to your del.icio.us feed if they like, by clicking the widget’s title. To my mind this is a better arrangement cos it’ll help me focus on decent blog content rather than populating it with weird random links.

Oh, and btw, for what it’s worth, I agree that self-hosted WordPress is the way to go but I just haven’t had the gumption to do it yet.

I’m still hosted @ WordPress and not using the plug-in, so can’t put the javascript into a widget in the sidebar. when will i ever get over my laziness and just migrate the whole thing to my own site?!? this may be the motivation i need.
